I've Got Nothing
04:12
|
|||
I've been riding on the waves of good intention but they crashed above my head and left me searching for direction
But the rate I've been going I just kept, I just kept floating away, oh floating away
The forests and the fields and the dirt roads the revealed led me astray,
so I dug my heels into the dirt and I yelled, not today, oh not today, oh not today, oh not today
Oh I’ve got nothing left to give my bones are weak and wearing thin I’ve got nothing, I’ve got nothing left to give
All the wars you're waging they've been tearing at my patience now I'm running now I'm running with the wind
You're words they sounded older, been wounded by exposure to the ways in which the world spits you out and knocks you over
Oh I’ve got nothing left to give my bones are weak and wearing thin I’ve got nothing, I’ve got nothing left to give
The green grass on the hills stole my heart and my free will the other day
The wind blew through my hair picked me up and left me there but I couldn't stay
I chased the setting sun across the ocean to your arms miles away
Back to the gold back to the yellow to the redwoods and willows where I'll remain, oh ill remain, oh ill remain, oh ill remain

Brittle Bones
04:24
|
|||
It seems the closer I get the further I roam
through the rows and rows
of white brittle bones
old friends and cigarettes that I've come to know
it seems the darker the day, more tender the rose
And this beauty we seek has it set you free?
like the bloom of the blossoms
from winter to spring
the words that you spoke
they’ve been lost in the breeze
and the darker the day
the more we’ll believe
Set me free
from your white picket dreams
I’m tearing at the seams
I'm not the man I used to be
set me free
I don't know where I want to be
ain't that the beauty of it all
the way we hide from what we seek
Have we dug our own graves
in these places we've made
deep in the earth
among the roots where we lay
under it all
it seems I've lost my way
and the darker the day
the longer the wait

Forgiveness
03:03
|
|||
Take me down to where the dry river roams
year by year and the stream beds grown
oh I found peace deep in my bones
your love is evergreen yeah you told me so
I heard it in the silence
and in the roar of the river
the way you asked for forgiveness
here at the end of your tether
I saw it from the hill tops
and in the great wide open
the way the sunset
over your kingdom broken
Don't rock the boat till you see dry land
there's gale force winds and the waters seeping in
you buried your the hatchet in the hull of your ship
don’t look now cause you’re sinking with it
And you tried as hard as you can
but every road you take leads you right back home in the end
time, time again
you get lit up on the things you don’t understand
I heard it in the silence
and in the roar of the river
the way you asked for forgiveness
here at the end of your tether
I saw it from the hill tops
and in the great wide open
the way the sunset
over your kingdom broken

Trapped Inside
05:36
|
|||
He's trapped inside by these old walls
They close him in and make him feel small
His eyes are closed and the walls come crashing down
All that's left are the windows and he cant hear a sound
But above his head he sees, the blues skies, of his hometown
The old man on the street corner has walked a thousand miles
he’s got dirt on his face but he has the biggest smile
Hey give me some change he yells
but not the kind in my jar, give me something that will change
where I am and how I got this far
Every night when I go to sleep
I dream of things that are out of my reach
And when I wake up
I'm in a hole that's a mile deep
But what can I do
Other than go down down down
Till I'm through
As he feels the summer breeze
His mind is filled with memories
Of times among the mountain pines
When life and love were easy to find
The tide rolls in and the tide rolls out
His mind is still filled with doubt
And he longs for the day
When he'll be singing from the clouds
Every night when I go to sleep
I dream of things that are out of my reach
And when I wake up
I'm in a hole that's a mile deep
But what can I do
Other than go down down down
Till I'm through
